The OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner hardware platform was released recently and after looking at it (finally) I really want one! I was talking the other day with a friend about open standards in the mobile computing industry. I was upset about SMS not having QoS standards in place after dealing with our campus emergency notification system, Code Maroon.

I’m really looking forward to getting one of these devices and doing some development with it. It should help me learn some basics about GPS and mobile programming, and give me a chance to play with Python and linux development more.

For developers, there’s an entire wiki section decidated to us (links on the front page). Again, super excited about all this and I’ll definitely be posting updates when I get one of these.
