Web Based RSS Feed Reader

Today I switched all of my RSS feeds from Outlook on my work computer to a web based system. I got tired of coming into work 3 days a week only to find my time swallowed up by backlogs of RSS feeds. First I moved everything to bloglines, but their service was so slow I decided to ask around and see what other people are using. A resounding call for Google Reader made up my mind, and after testing it out, I really like it.

I’ve imported all of my feeds to Google Reader now and removed them from Outlook. The main problem I had with outlook was that in OWA, it would not update RSS feeds and I could not read them from the web. So long outlook.

This is a continuing trend for me to move things off of desktop based applications and onto web based ones. I started with del.icio.us because I kept losing bookmarks on reformats, etc.

I am a little afraid of Google’s power over my data – I use GMail, google calendar, and now reader. However, in a world where data should be open and autonomous, I have to submit to the fact that someone, somewhere, probably knows more about me than I do already.
